Like another reviewer notes, I too believe this item has a poor rating undeservedly.
10 years ago I bought a York pacer treadmill which came with this chest strap. I have recently bought a new treadmill (also York) and have been using the old chest strap with it. The rubber on one end of the old strap broke not too long after the new treadmill arrived.
Now, considering at that point the chest strap was more than 10 years old, has had numerous battery changes, and has done many thousands of miles, I think it has performed beyond any expectations I may have initially had when I first received it in 2001.
I have ordered and just received it’s replacement and it is identical (visually) to the one I have just discarded. I have no doubts the new one will perform as well as the old one.
To note, it is vital that the electrodes touching your skin are wet. A dab from a sponge, or your tongue it doesn’t matter. Once you have a bit of a sweat that looks after itself.
The strap and transmitter does not include the receiver as used in some other or older York appliances. Check your YORK appliance has the facility for wireless heart rate monitor. If you have a little socked marked ‘telemetry option’ you will need to find a receiver for it.

There are a couple of reviews here which mark the item down quite substantially. Actually it’s not so bad.
True, it doesn’t come with a manual and the battery is pre-installed.
I also bought the x301 elliptical and it works fine in combination (after several weeks). It is far more accurate than the pulse sensors in the hand-grips.
